Gemeynes Fechten: A Theoretical Common Fencing
20:00 – 21:30
Zoom Link: https://zoom.us/j/95106602850 Jake Norwood, CKDF's Founder, will be leading this discussion on the "Common Fencing." The Gemeynes Fechten, or “Common Fencing,” is a theoretically constructed style for fencing with the longsword based on mostly Germanic sources from the late 14th through late 16th centuries. Inspired by Liechtenauer’s admonition not to do as “common fencers” do, the Gemeynes Fechten consists of techniques and solutions to fencing problems that are thought to have been universal to longsword fencers throughout the time period.

Meyer's Cut Challenge
01 Sep 2020 07:00 – 30 Sep 2020 23:00
As we approach our new normal and resume select practices, everyone is anxious to brush off the rust and get back into sparring shape. Sure, 120+80 is all well and good, but even that gets boring after the thousandth iteration. To spice things up, CKDF is issuing a challenge to all members: The Meyer Cut Challenge! Thirty days, thirty cutting patterns, three edges to cut with. Each number represents a FULL Meyer Square of 16 strikes. We encourage you to film and take pictures of yourself participating in this challenge. What a fun way to create a solid montage of how we are practicing! No sword? No problem. Grab a broom handle, rolling pin, paper towel tube, whatever you have handy and get cutting. Tag us in your cutting reps: #MeyerCutChallenge, @CapitalKDF, Share in our Facebook Meyer Cut Challenge Group, or email us at info@capitalkdf.org.

The Anti-Gloss with Stephen Cheney
19:00 – 20:30
Zoom Link: https://zoom.us/j/97870253227 For every technique and situation in the RDL glosses, there is an anonymous opponent giving us the feedback needed to perform it. The anti-gloss is a re-imagining of the RDL glosses, from the point of view of the opponent. Each set piece play is re-written from the perspective of the opponent, and all of the pieces are re-organized, grouping together what Stephen Cheney thought to be common ideas, forming a set of anti-hauptstücke. The purpose of this is to try to put ourselves in the shoes of our opponent in order to better understand when to perform each move, and to try to gain an understanding of some tactics that the glossators might expect an opponent to use.
