Historic Knightly Physical Training

Sun, 13 Oct 2019
10:00 - 18:00

A day long event where we will sample a variety of physical training methods that are described or recommended in 13-15th century knightly sources. These include:

marching
running
jumping
vaulting
wrestling
gymnastics
stone lifting and tossing
javelin
sling
tug of war

The goal will be to experience a day of physical training for a knight, or our best documented interpretation thereof. We will keep the pace vigorous, but strive to include everyone.

We'll conclude with a discussion about historic physical training sources, and how knights might have thought about their training.

Lunch will be included. The event will be "rain or shine," with only limited exceptions, so please plan and dress accordingly. Attendance is limited to 18 participants.

REQUIRED:
Close-toed athletic shoes or boots
Athletic/training pants/shorts
Water bottle

OPTIONAL:
Gloves
Hat
Extra pair of socks
Weight vest or mail shirt
Traditional or medieval bow/arrows or crossbow/bolts

I strongly suggest you read the following article:
